Lava Release

Lava Release is an advanced nature transformation that combines fire and earth chakra to create volcanic substances. This chakra type can take on multiple forms depending on the nature of its composition and solidity, a versatility demonstrated by shinobi of the different nations that wield it.

The most common style of Lava Release  takes the form of molten rock that can simultaneously burn and smash through any obstacles, just like the lava that flows beneath the earth. It can be wielded to spit exploding rocks of lava, superheat the ground, unleash waves of lava and cause volcanic eruptions.

The kekkei genkai is predominately wielded by one of the founding clans of Iwagakure who are recognized as among the strongest in the Land of Earth ever since the Warring States Era. The level of destruction they are capable of made them feared by all enemies as they were known to completely reshape the battlefield and devastate the land for years.

But those generations of experience meant that they developed techniques for more than just destructive purposes such as the Quicklime Congealing Technique for restricting an enemy’s movement or the Ash Stone Seal Technique to completely bind them without hope of escape. Just like using Earth Release to create mud or Fire Release to create explosive powder, using Lava Release to create alternate volcanic substances gives them far greater variety in dealing with their enemies.

But the oldest and greatest wielder of Lava Release is Son Goku, the Four-Tailed Monkey. Its immense power allowed it turn entire stretches of land into lava and raise up volcanoes to unleash disastrous eruptions. That power was thus shared with its jinchuuriki once it had been captured and sealed, gifting them all with Lava Release to replicate its abilities on a smaller scale.

Roushi – He was the second jinchuuriki of the Four Tails who was chosen because he belonging to Iwagakure’s lava-using clan in the hopes that it would make his innate ability even greater. This experiment was considered a success as Roushi was incredibly talented with the advanced chakra nature and infamous for his destructiveness during the wars, earning his moniker as the Volcano.

His specialty was the Lava Release Chakra Mode which surrounded his body in armour of molten rock, allowing him to crush and burn everything caught in its path as a nigh-unstoppable juggernaut. Before taking a leave of absence from Iwagakure to try and control his Tailed Beast, he taught everything he knew to his apprentice, Kurotsuchi.

Dodai – He is an example of the lengths that Kumogakure has always been willing to go to gain military strength. Decades ago, they successfully kidnapped one of Iwagakure’s lava-wielding clan with the intention of creating their own clan. The attempt was only partially successful as Dodai was the only one surviving child who awakened that kekkei genkai before they lost the mother.

He specialised in creating vulcanised rubber with the durability and flexibility to withstand and dissipate an opposing force, making it better suited for defence and capture. This gives him a more versality than Lava Release usually has by creating defensive walls capable of repelling powerful force, balls that can entrap a target within them, or ropes to bind targets together. Despite his controversial origins, Dodai’s loyalty is unquestioned and he has been the trusted attendant to several Raikage.

Terumi Mei – She is the only individual in the Land of Water to have ever had the Lava Release kekkei genkai. Most believe she inherited Boil Release from one or both parents and simply awakened Lava Release as a first-generation kekkei genkai. The truth is her father was a foreign shinobi with the kekkei genkai who had a whirlwind romance with her mother when they were young. However no-one but Mei herself even suspects as much.

Her signature Lava Release: Melting Apparition Technique creates acidic mud like that which can be found in mud volcanoes instead of using molten rock. The mud flow that she generates is highly corrosive and capable of melting through almost anything. This acidity means that it’s just as capable of burning through obstacles as the common style, only accomplished through a different means. Even when facing Water Release, this technique allows her to match their techniques without losing its effectiveness unlike the standard molten rock.
