Chuukichi of the Ice Release

Hiding in Frost Jutsu

Chuukichi, Gari, Toroi and Pakura were characters introduced in the Fourth Great Shinobi War as summons of the Impure World Reincarnation.

Prior to their appearance in the manga, four unnamed characters appeared in Naruto Shippūden the Movie: The Will of Fire with the exact same design; sharing the same appearance, clothing and affiliation. In the movie, they were captured by the villain for a ritual that would give him their kekkei genkai. In the manga, three of their counterparts possessed Explosion Release, Magnet Release and Scorch Release.

Even though the kekkei genkai don’t match those in the movie, three out of four have a kekkei genkai in both sources. The exception is Chuukichi who’s only contribution to the war effort was his chakra sensing as he never participated in combat. But given the origin of his character, I believe that Chuukichi possessed a kekkei genkai that was never revealed.

For him, I would assume that it is Ice Release. It’s one of the elemental kekkei genkai native to the Land of Water and in the anime – which helped inspire this theory –  Chuukichi used the Hiding in Frost Technique.

As Haku was also resurrected and had far more significance as a character, it gives an excuse for why Chuukichi’s abilities might not have been revealed so that he doesn’t overshadow Haku’s own skills and back story. Another reason could be prejudice towards kekkei genkai holders in the Land of Water; Chuukichi may have been in the habit of concealing his bloodline when he was alive, and being forced to work for Akatsuki made him even more reluctant to reveal his true abilities.
